With excellent controls, fun gameplay and vast selection of impressive tracks (original designs and updated classics), this is the definitive version of this long running series. Mario Kart 8 isn’t just reinventing the wheel of this series, but it is perfect on that level. With the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 still in its sleeve, this isn’t the strongest year in terms of potential nominations but it won’t throw away from the winner. Nominations: Bayonetta 2, Dark Souls 2, Dragon Age Inquisition, Far Cry 4, Mario Kart 8, Middle Earth: a Mordor, and Tales From The Borderlands. However, it’s not quite as simple to define when the development of a console gets underway, but for this feature I have gone with the release of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2014 as the starting point. Sony and Microsoft are now releasing mid-gen console upgrades and Nintendo tying up their own drums. I’m not interested in doing that that with the younger generation. In January 2015, a time it now seems like a distant memory now that all the recent things lie, I wrote a Readers Feature whose title picks my favorite game of any kind of year for the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3/Wii console generation. Each year a reader is looking at the generation of consoles that have developed and is trying to name the best game of the year: Mario Kart 8.
